I've been thinking of naming my computer. It's a Palomino 1800+, ABit KR7A, 256MB PC2100, 40 GB ATA100, and maybe some other stuff. It's got a bunch of fans in it, so it's pretty loud. The only external modification is I hollowed out the lower 3.5" bay cover and put in a grille with speaker cloth over it (because the case's front air intake sucks). Looks almost exactly like this (that's 17"):

So what are some good names?

I name machines using 3 initials of the owner's name followed by the last two digits of the year the machine was assembled. :p

I was thinking "Betty Rubble", but that might prove to be too tempting. It sure is curvaceous. :)

Surely the name is what it is called on the network? For instance, this one right here is Mestalla, and the one PC it is linked to is Riazor. Sometimes I think it would be cool to buy more PCs just to decide which stadia to name them after.

In that case, it's named pt79rwib133.

Cool name.

Doesn't exactly flow off the tongue. I'd feel kind of foolish saying, "Good night, pt79rwib133."

The terrible thing about that statement is the thing that would make you feel foolish is the name, not the concept of saying goodnight to your computer.

The case looks vaguely penguin-ey. What's a good female penguin name, Gladys?

comp names: Alpha-mobile, Alpha-server, Beta, Gamma, Omega
network: Epsilon.

Our computers at college were named after famous computers in novels/films/tv programs e.g. Holly, R2D2, Maximillium etc...

Our computers are named after the users, and most of the servers are named after Muppets.

Note: the two parts of that sentence DO NOT mean the same thing :D

Hmmm...another disturbing aspect of Geekdom I was blissfully unaware of.
My computer needs a name too, I think.
My wife likes to call it "the other woman".

Since you've designed it to increase air suction you must call it MegaMaid.

You're very nearly German when it comes to humor.

I'm now thinking along the lines of Qiwi, after the character in A Deepness in the Sky. 'Cause I have to keep shutting her down and wiping her memory.

OOH! If you even figure out how to make an application that will work on humans, let me know!

The old Windows Entertainment Packages had one. It was called Blackjack. I never used it on someone, but I could see how it would be entertaining.

I called mine computer Squatbox, because it was a very squat, er, box.

Stupid name, now that I've got a nice Koolance water-cooling tower. I wonder why I kept it? The name, not the case.

How about calling it "Genitals"? That way, when people ask you what you're doing, you can say "I'm playing with my Genitals".
