Seems to be a big week for game news...

"The wait is over. The next game in the award winning Combat Mission series has just been announced.

Combat Mission: Afrika Korps (CMAK) moves the focus to three new regions of conflict. North Africa from 1940-43. Italy (including Sicily) from 1943-45 and Crete in 1941." More Here! (http://www.battlefront.com/index.htm)

Spreading fires, dust kicked up by moving vehicles, smoke movement?, multiturreted vehicles

Wooo, and indeed, Hooooo!!! again.

Great new theatre to play with although it looks like its going to be more wide open spaces than my prefered close infantry combat stuff. At least Italy and crete should be fairly infantry heavy. Could be a great oportunity for a big "desert rats" campaign.

The new engine is going to interesting though as theres going to be multi-turret tanks (things like the M3 Lee with the hull turret mounted 75mm and 37mm main turret). Which of course opens the door for CM2 (which allegedly will cover all the european theatres) to include the early war russian tanks which had up to 5 turrets - some of them pointing backwards!)

They say they need another year of work on the CM2 engine... this is just to hold us over - and keep them fed and clothed.

Wide open scares me - I could lose much faster without cover to hide in. :D

there's also Italy and Crete, very montaneous...

BTW, I just sent an email to battlefront :

"congratulations!
a lot of people will be thrilled by your announce. What's not so thrilling, however, is the apparent absence of French troops. How do you plan to simulate the Italy campaign without its most famous battle, Monte Cassino?

Hoping it's just a minor bug, receive again my warmest thanks and encouragements

 That one's going to get passed around the office, I think.

Looking at a few lines of history leads me to believe that it took hardened Polish troops to take Monte Cassino. No one else got the job done.

Well, I reckon whebn the current challenge is over we'll need to sort of codify some leagues here - not trying to make things excessively complicated but we have a number of players now.

This to me, though, sounds like CMBB+ - more armour less infantry...

I could do with more experience. Still, things are going well enough (for now!) against Shakey.

a CG league or ladder would be interesting, either make it up here, or join an existing one

I think we should run one here but I do not know how exactly these things work. I am so stupid.

I think the following version of your e-mail would be better, maroule:
"congratulations!
a lot of people will be thrilled by your announce. What's not so thrilling, however, is the apparent absence of French troops. How do you plan to simulate the Italy campaign without any of the troops surrendering?

not bad :)
especially from a nation that surrendered too :D
you're probably getting cocky about the final coup de main of polish troops on the Monte Cassino monastry

that said, some people on the battlefront forum also complained about the absence of the French from North Africa (historically, that would kinda make sense)...

Anyway, everybody likes the Foreign Legion, and there is a very cool battle to simulate in Bir Hakeim

It's getting around all those bloody tourists that's the problem. Actually, the pizza place nearby that is really quite good for such a tourist area.

Beta1

yeah some sort of ladder would be a good way of running it - that way it doesnt matter what how quickly everyone plays
