I just watched Donnie Darko. I haven't seen a film that good in years.

Since the Straight Story actually. Weeks then.

I’m still not entirely convinced about it.

I thought it blew. And people who like it must fall easily for something that is pseudo-deep. And I thought the music at the end was too obvious. And the same movie was made a while ago (Siesta) and the ending was more of a surprise in that one. Totally didn't see it coming. In Darko, you can see it coming.

Too obvious for what, exactly?

You have a fascination with things that are ‘pseudo’ but in this case you are right: it wasn’t deep. So what? A film doesn’t have to be deep to be excellent, and this was neither. It wasn’t bad, though.

I just remember the guys at the video store (really good one) saying how good it was. I just thought it was really telegraphed. Even the part about the guy being a pedophile. I mean how much more cliched do you need to be??? I don't need the film to be complicated or sphisticated. I can enjoy a good romp or a compedy. But Darko was trying to be more than that. And IMHO it fails.

And yeah...it is pseudo-deep.

If, before I saw it, someone had told me that it was film of the year then I would have liked it less.

Sean, it was a decent flick. I just had a very different take from some people who think it is one of the best flicks ever and such. (And yeah...I've heard that.) And with those people, I kinda want them to go see some more movies...

;)

I think we are cool. I'm willing to accept that others have a different opinion than me. I think they're wrong. ;)

The opinions, my bones, or the wrong people?
