Just spent an hour in retro heaven with this baby - was afraid my Amiga wouldn't hold together but she pulled through for me :D

Sensible World of Soccer! "Football... Bloody Hell!"

Spent about a month a few years ago setting up my custom tactics that kind of resembled a 3-3-2-1-1 set up and it was just gorgeous. I'd make sure the "2's" from the 3-3-2-1-1 were the fastest wingers I could afford, who'd swoop onto the goal so that when a shot from my primary striker was deflected they'd swoop (like salmon). (A further miracle deflection would soon be sorted out by my secondary striker...)

I remember taking Bolton to the top and rejecting offers from Liverpool and Man Utd. just so I could rescue Gillingham from the bottom of the bottom and take them to the treble.

I haven't played any other soccer games that matched the playability of this one.

unfortunately i never got to play world of soccer on the amiga version, but i say that the original sensible soccer on amiga ranks as one of the greatest games of all time. Absolutely sublime.

It had every kind of european & international competition; you could change every player name, appearance, every club name, kit, 2nd kit, manager name; the star player system was brilliant; tactics galore; the control was incredible, long passes, short passes, headers, chips, every kind of swerve & dip and all with a one button joystick.

Every football game made before or since falls in its shadow.

the emulator hunt starts here.
