Now I know Black and White didn't get the best reaction from many here. Personally I really liked the creatures aspect but it could have used more of a game. I just got this press release from Lionhead, yeah, ok it's the standard e-mail shot everyone gets it's not like I'm on some special press list or something. Anyway it sounds quite interesting so I thought I'd share it.

From Lionhead:

Will you be an evil or benevolent deity?

That?s the choice players must make upon returning to a warring land in Black & White 2. Like its wildly successful predecessor, Black & White, the sequel is all about moral choices.

The land, however, has transformed itself. The inhabitants of this breathtaking 3D world have lost their innocence and developed new weapons and technology. As players enter this warring world will they make tribes coexist peacefully, encouraging villages and towns to grow into sprawling metropolises, or prompt them to inflict their will upon others by creating and commanding large armies that seek to dominate and conquer?

Creatures in the game have grown too. They can learn strategies, master new abilities and skills, lead armies into battle and be a player?s ultimate unit.

Black & White 2 includes other new elements, such as improved graphics and Miracle effects such as rivers of fire and earthquakes that yield massive destruction. Every choice a player makes will have an impact. Each action and inaction prompts obvious changes to buildings, flora and fauna, all morphing to reflect the player?s personality.

Sounds good.

Er, just like the last one. We'll see.

27-03-2003, 12:05:35
Looks good, but no details of when it's likely to be out :(

27-03-2003, 14:42:05
They're afraid to even guess this time around.

27-03-2003, 14:47:29
Really does just sound like the old B&W with 'new stuff'

27-03-2003, 14:52:04
Except you can build armies, sounds much more like 3D populous with creatures.

28-03-2003, 15:48:36
Seriously, was the first worth anything at all?

28-03-2003, 15:59:03
I thought the creature stuff was a lot of fun, the RTS bit sucked.

Sorry, posted halfway through that.

28-03-2003, 16:13:03
So you'd much rather have just played The Sims: Creatures.

28-03-2003, 17:07:27
Nah, I think that's what the Creature isle expansion was and I didn't get that. I would rather have played the game with creatures and a decent RTS element.

Can we shoot funko? Or make him keep his head in Venom's armpit for a week? Front page news is meant to be kept down in size. That thing looks like an article compared to our regular news pieces.

And why don't the newsies have a secret forum to discuss this stuff in? ;)

B&W2 really just sounds like B&W with a touch more added. Maybe the villies will finally be able to scream 'GOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!!' when they score in football (soccer to you fellow Americans out there).

28-03-2003, 19:19:31
On the plus side... Molly bally there is busy with his new game 'The Studio' (Sims meets Movie Tycoon ?), so maybe B&W2 will be more game?

Looks like marketing has picked up most people know B&W amounts to UberUnit management as well.

Well, Lionhead are consistenmt. B&W 2 looks to be just as dreadful as the first one.

I think they should have ditched the creatures and focused on an interesting 3D God game. I find it far more enjoyable roaming around a 3D landscape and interacting with my people than messing about with some nappy wetting dumb-arse creature.

09-04-2003, 11:13:33
A God game wouldn’t have been innovative, though .

It might have been less buggy.

I agree with BoltyBoy.

09-04-2003, 11:37:46
I don't, I think they should have made a proper creature game and spunked off the RTS aspect.

Just buy yourself a guinea pig - it's cheaper.

09-04-2003, 14:36:36
People get all funny when you train real animals to fight each other.

09-04-2003, 14:49:46
Only if they are female.

that's one way of preventing female involvement

Are there any bugs in this game?

But the fights in B&W were so boring. IIt was just a click-fest with little result.

You mean, and RTS game with an RPG 'train your fighter' game is innovate? Exactly how?

10-04-2003, 09:19:10
Who, me?

They should have made those interesting as well.

11-04-2003, 17:28:57
What? With Matrix style fighting?

It didn't matter what they did for moves or animation. It was just 'Click on the other guy like mad!' and then 'Gesture up some attacks/heals'. The only thing that could have been even more boring, is if you didn't have to click or gesture at all. Of course, half the time, my critter would win without direction. Clicking like mad just helped end the fight quicker.

11-04-2003, 17:32:25
They could have made them interesting by making them like a beat-em-up, which they said they would do. They didn’t, because PC controls for beat-em-ups suck, and they wanted to have everything accessible by the mouse. Wankers.

11-04-2003, 17:36:13
Ah. Mortal Kombat with Critters. That *WOULD* have rocked. HIGH PUNCH! LOW KICK! BLOCK! COMBO!

I was really surprised they hadn't. Since it was real time, with clicks on where you wanted your beastie to hit the other beastie, that made it 'click like mad'. Very boring.

I wasn’t exactly thinking Mortal Kombat-style, but it would be an interesting lesson in animal dissection.

Am I going to sounds foolish by admitting that I liked this game?

11-04-2003, 18:21:53
That depends. Do you think Funkodrom is foolish?

11-04-2003, 19:35:11
Shaker, yes. But that's alright. We don't expect much from someone willing to live with Funkodrome.

11-04-2003, 19:36:04
I still cannot believe that Funko didn't name this thread: "What's Black and White and red all over?"

13-04-2003, 12:41:29
An embarrsed Michael Jackson?

13-04-2003, 18:18:39
I liked it as well. It wasn't the greatest game in the world but I had fun playing around with my creature and teaching him to do stuff and laughing when Shakey's creature Cow-'ard couldn't learn anything.
