View Full Version : The Oscars

I don't know anything about them but they were yesterday and this is a film forum. Apparently Zeta Jones won one for the Brits.

i think that was some kind of political decision on the basis that her and father time are the new golden couple of hollywood rather than on her performance in chicago

Political Oscars decision shock!

24-03-2003, 13:19:08
The Oscars were very political. There were wins by Aussies, Brits, and even a spainish guy - all American allies taken care of:D.

I always stay up all night and watch the ceremony. Come on, I can't be the only one who does this!

24-03-2003, 13:39:23
I have work in the morning.

24-03-2003, 13:45:43
I didn't watch a single second of it.

24-03-2003, 13:47:20
Nor did I but the radio news summed it up in a few seconds this morning.

24-03-2003, 14:03:41
Yeah, it takes about 30 seconds to list all the "important" awards. Of course hollywood needs 4 hours to pat themselves on the back and give eachother handjobs.

24-03-2003, 14:08:00
And who really gives a fuck about best second grip in an adaptation or all those other shit awards.

24-03-2003, 14:09:16
Only the family members of those involved.

24-03-2003, 14:13:22
Scabby must have a big family.

24-03-2003, 15:20:47
They all weigh 300 pounds.

24-03-2003, 15:29:24
Small fry compared to you.

24-03-2003, 15:36:35
I will crush you.

24-03-2003, 16:32:55
Only if you can raise your butt off the ground far enough for me to sneak underneath.

24-03-2003, 17:10:37
I was impressed by Adrien Brody’s comment. That aside, though: Chicago got best film? I have seen at least four better films in 2003 alone!

24-03-2003, 18:19:59
Another nutty decision. Especially with movies like The Pianist out there.

But I stopped taking the Academy seriously way back in the year when ET beat out Blade Runner for best special effects.

24-03-2003, 18:50:21
What was this Brody fellow's comment?

24-03-2003, 18:52:55
And who is he/she. Figure it might be a girl as the name's spelt wrong.

24-03-2003, 18:57:14
Adrien Brody won best actor for his portrayal of Wladyslaw Szpilman (sp?) in The Pianist.

Michael Moore had this to say in his speech:
We are against this war, Mr. Bush. Shame on you, Mr. Bush. Shame on you.

Adrien Brody said this:
My experience making this film made me very aware of the sadness and the dehumanization of people in times of war, and the repercussions of war. And whether you believe in God or Allah, may he watch over you, and let's pray for a peaceful and swift resolution.

24-03-2003, 19:21:24
Michael Moore's a fat piece of shit who makes his living off of other people's suffering and doesn't even do it truthfully.

24-03-2003, 19:26:17
Correct. But the KKK/NRA animation in the middle of BFC was very funny, albeit hideously unfair.

24-03-2003, 19:28:50
Yes. That was funny. Dealing with the KKK unfairly is always funny.

24-03-2003, 19:52:19
Well, Venom, since our friend Michael is now the most cited American, eh, intellectual, in France, replacing long-uncontested champ Noam Chomsky, he has to be a really clever guy, dontchyathink?

Although I would personally have been disappointed if he had let an opportunity like this to make an ass of himself slip away.

24-03-2003, 20:05:05
He surely didn't disappoint you. It takes a real asshole to be appreciated by France and to get booed by massively leftwing Hollywood.

24-03-2003, 22:56:56
I have to admit I stayed up late and watched it.

However it was entirely accidental as I had the tv on and was reading a book (cosmonaut keep by ken macleod), and it just came on...
