View Full Version : MoO3 Update

21-03-2003, 03:32:15
Now, this is funny...

Quick Silver is going to release 2 patches. One is a simple *spreadsheet* update.

They have a code based patch also to be released at some point. They are fixing lots and lots and lots of things. Like the AI not invading worlds. Not being able to build certain improvements, how it always wants to build transports, etc etc etc.

I do find their forums very funny. Apparently, QS studied the success of Firaxis at making the SMAC community, and have gone to extremes to make an extreme community. ;)

Well, just dropping you guys a quick update, for the few of you who pre-ordered the game and couldn't find a sucker to pass MoO3 along to.

dip your arm in the loo if you want to rescue the magic pill...

You'll have to scroll for the Moo3 forum.

21-03-2003, 17:19:33
scroll or troll?

They are overcome by trolls.

Right now, there is a huge drive to get IG to release the source code to MoO1 and MoO2... so that all those dissappointed fans of MoO3 might give 1/2 a dress up to make them work easily on Linux and Windows.

Also, there are now about a dozen various Open Source clone jobs being undertaken. You'd think some of theose Open Source bozos would have noticed the 112 previously registerd MoO clones on Free Source, but hey, most Open Source people are total fuckwits (because I suspect the average joe that wants to give away thousands of their hours to the community must be total fuckwits, as the good ones have been swept up by visionaries/greedy management to work cheap for them. ;))

It's very nasty over in the MoO3 forums. Huge gangs of people that say it sucks, only a handful that say it's good, and most of them seem to be related to people that make their living off QS or IG... with one or two oddities thrown in.

Up side though... Lots of MoO1 and MoO2 activity over there, as teh disappointed want to play the originals. Links to the originals, as well as virtual drivers to let people play the originals on current hardware...

While Moo3 itself seems stillborn, the online game is shaping out to the best thing since BC3K! ;)

Who the fuck pre-orders a game?

How stupid can you get?

22-03-2003, 02:14:18
I do not pre-order, but I do ask the store to reserve me a copy.

22-03-2003, 02:31:15
Pre-ordering a game is like paying someone on eBay for a mystery item.

22-03-2003, 04:01:23
MoO1 and MoO2 were so well done, that there was enough of a fan base willing to pre-order #3. In fact, according to IG, MoO3's pre-orders break all records for TBS games.

Remember also that it was Quick Silver that did the game. QS generally makes seriously fan-fucking-tastic games, when they decide to make a game. Castles, for instance.

There was not a recent 'Firaxis' debacle either with it. No reason for those that initally placed their preorder to have any serious doubts.

SE4 runs well under Wine. No need for "Yet Another Open Source Space Opera". I haven't tried to use MOO2 with Wine, but it should work. ;)

And yeah, it's sometimes frustrating that the various projects out there can't consolidate. I've been looking for a CD burning program with a GUI and saw a zillion projects at Freshmeat. Ditto for CD lableing. It's hard to find the right thing quickly.

MoO2 works well with scotch.

Can't afford Scotch, but it runs quite well with Vodka too.

So basically the advice is don't touch it with a 20 ft poll. It was delayed too long for me to muster much interest in it anyway.
