Johan i haven't seen Solaris so i can't comment on that, but you are an excellent writer, i'll give you that.

Well, I've seen both and I rather agree with Johan. It is true that the original is a little on the ponderous side but that allows a greater sense of humanity to emerge. The remake, although not as goddamned awful as I feared it might be, has a very cold and austere feel. It feels in some parts like a mad rush to the conclusion so everyone can go home to earth.

This is particularly true of the parts shot on earth which, in the original are an important part of the whole film, but in the remake have more the feel of an unwelcome advert for the local Indian restaurant.
