When you hear or write music, do you see it?

Someone said I was weird because I see music and can visualise tones and sounds in shapes. Am I weird?

synaesthesia - it is not weird, but there is a clinical definiton for extreme incidences

we had a thread about it once...

I don't actually see it in front of my eyes. But when I write music I see the sonic landscape in which I am creating it. Solid drums as the foundation, guitar as the sky etc

I get synaesthesia if I am on acid. This is different. Acid helped to tap in to it though.

are you saying you always visualise a landscape , or that sometimes you imagine different things?

say, drums are a giant robot's legs, bass are it's huge arms, lead guitar it's roar of destruction, etc.

I visualise a sonic scape. Pan left is the left of the picture pan right is the right - just as you hear it coming from the speakers. Bass at the bottom and treble at the top. if there is a guitar on the left of the scape there should be something balancing it on the other side. Some good music is the music that leaves space in the soundscape like decent díníb.
If I hear a wash of tinny etherial strings I would imagine them flowing at the top of the picture. A wall of guitar would literally be a wall of sound that filled most of the scape.
Solid drums are solid structures in the picture.

Oh my god. Iím weird arenít I?

I don't see robots yet. Maybe a few years down the line and I'll be Phil Spector.

So you don't picture anything at all, even if it is beautiful music?

Nope. Not only that but my perception of 'beautiful music' isn't even the same as yours.
