View Full Version : LWP 4 info and stuff

Negotiations have begun, so I guess I should set out the rules by shamelessly cribbing from the LWP 3 thread.

The thirteen participants are: Scabrous Birdseed, Lazarus and the Gimp, Provost Harrison, MattHiggs, Debaser, Mr. Bas, Funkodrom, The Shaker, Resource Consumer, protein, *End Is Forever*, King_Ghidra, and my wonderful self. Each of us will have 12 minutes 38 seconds of our very own to play with over the course of two 80 minute* CDs. If this is too much or not enough, barter (http://www.counterglow.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=10739). If the total time is over 160 minutes, I’ll pick some tracks at random and chop the endings off to fit. If it’s less than, I’m not going to put any extra on. And if (heaven forbid) two people choose the same track, they shall be roundly castigated and forced to collaborate.

When your track selection is final, burn the results onto a CD, making sure that track name-writing is off. If you’re cheap you can burn them as wav files onto a CD-RW, and so not have to waste a CD. On the other hand, if you’re cheap you won’t like the next bit.

Put the CD in a case of your choosing. I recommend a double jewel case, but if you want both LWP 4 CDs to be cramped into a single jewel case, or even a slip case, you can make it so. Now take a large, non-bubble wrap envelope and a smaller, CD-sized, bubble wrap envelope. On the first, write my address: Sean McGivern, 1 Boddington Close, Cubbington, Leamington Spa, Warwickshire, CV32 7LT. On the second, write your address. On both, put the quantity of stamps the Royal Mail requires. Once this is done, all you have to do is put the CD in the second envelope, the second envelope in the first, and the first (sealed, of course) in a post box.

The deadline for this is Wednesday 12 March, 2003. That means get it to me for that date, not send it by then. If you complete your CD at the weekend, you can post it on the Monday and it should get here by the required date.

With all this done, we just have to review the CDs. No two consecutive weeks will have the same review compiler, so you’ll have to keep on your toes. The reviews for the first week go to Funkodrom, so bother him about it.

* Mr Birdseed apparently uses 75 minute CDs, so there’s more time than he originally mentioned.

Nice one Sean!

Can any Reading posters who want me so send up their entries to Sean make sure they get me their tracks / CDs before the 10th March. Preferably before that weekend.

As before I won't listen to the tracks, just copy them and let Sean know which tracks were from which posters.

As far as I know I should be getting tracks from:

The Shaker, King_Ghidra, Debaser, protein and my wonderful self.

As this is my first LWP I would like to bring everyone's attention to the fact that I am wonderful.

Provost Harrison

We'll judge that by your musical taste :p

Scabrous Birdseed

I'm leaving England on the 15th-16th some time, before which I'm going to Bristol for a Poly meet, should the self-addressed envelope be for Sweden?

Sean
06-02-2003, 00:12:49
How long are you staying in Sweden for?

Funkodrom
06-02-2003, 09:19:51
Oh shit, yeah, I'm supposed to be going to Bristol the weekend of our first deadline as well... I'll also be in Amsterdam over Easter weekend (18th-21st April)

King_Ghidra
06-02-2003, 09:56:47

"track name-writing is off"

I am fine with the rest of it, but what does this mean?

Funkodrom
06-02-2003, 10:40:42
Some CD writers attach track name information when they write the tracks.

Five weeks.

Oh, I'll just put on the bigger postage for the small envelope, it's not that much pricier.

Thanks. I think, then, given my ignorance then this does not happen with mine...

Scabrous Birdseed
07-02-2003, 23:01:05
Bollocks, even with the 23 sec addition I'm still 36 seconds short. I'll have to change a track or two. :(

Three? Me and Laz have five each.

Scabrous Birdseed
09-02-2003, 12:46:11
Of course, I have negotiated my time up to 13:12.

The Shaker
09-02-2003, 12:56:01
arse, mine fit 13.30

The Shaker
09-02-2003, 13:05:10

Yeah, I had a very good idea what I wanted to put on and it just turns out that none of the tracks are less than 4 mins so that's the way it has to be. I'm quite happy to use 20 minutes if you want me to pick 5 tracks. :D

I think K_G and Debaser have 5 tracks each as well.

"Deadline", not "target".

Scabrous Birdseed

You should have made the deadline Feb. 12th instead.

I'm sure the fact that I did see it doesn't really matter, since I don't have any idea of what kind of music it is anyway and so won't know which one it is.

That doesn't surprise me, since it still hasn't been sent. :cute:

I'm not able to pay for it directly according to the mail, so I've asked around a bit and decided that I'll just send a few pounds along. According to the royal mail website, that should be sufficient... It should be on its way tomorrow or friday at the latest.

OK, I’ve ripped most of the tracks to wav, with two problem ones (CDex says status: X rather than OK*). I’ve tried a different CD drive and cleaned the CD, but it still doesn’t work. I take it you have MP3s of them still?

* This means it’s ripped the track, but had a problem in doing so. They might not be noticeable.

Funkodrom
12-03-2003, 16:50:23
Depends whos they are. If they are protein's I've got them on mp3, anyone elses I have as wav but can convert to mp3. Problem is working out which songs, you'd have to tell me who's song it is and what length. Alternatively just listen to them and see if there is a serious problem.

Sean
12-03-2003, 16:52:15
Ah, but have they converted them to wav from MP3 or from CD?

I need Debaser’s first track and The Shaker’s fourth.

Funkodrom
12-03-2003, 16:55:10
Not sure, I just got them as wav and I haven't listened to them. I've only got them at home, could e-mail them to you from there, alternatively they could do it, which would mean they could listen to the mp3 version to check it was OK before mailing or send you the original mp3 rather than an mp3 to wav to mp3.

Sean
12-03-2003, 16:57:10
OK then. Debaser, Shakey: can you send those tracks to me?

Funkodrom
12-03-2003, 16:59:08
