Here's the deal.

If I get an extra 24 seconds, I include a track that just about everyone will love.

If I don't get it, you'll get a track that I think you'll all hate.

Lazarus and the Gimp
03-02-2003, 21:51:58
If I get it, I'll also spell "Bartering" correctly.

Debaser
03-02-2003, 22:24:01
You can have 24seconds from me if you want.

King_Ghidra
04-02-2003, 08:47:21
24 seconds to go, i got 24 seconds to go...

Funkodrom
04-02-2003, 09:56:10
I'm not going to put in a hate track with only 11 mins to play with.

King_Ghidra
04-02-2003, 11:19:35
yeah i must admit i'm getting cold on the hate track idea

i want to give quality

anyway everyone will probably hate my tracks anyway :p

Oh hell, I have to give this some thought.
My ideas are running at zero at the moment.

Debaser

Ok, listen up my little LWP4 buddies. My track selection is now complete and looking foxy. It clocks in at 11.51 so, bearing in mind I've already given Laz 24 seconds, that means I have 23 whole seconds to give away.

Who wants 'em bitches?

Scabrous Birdseed
07-02-2003, 17:10:15
I'll take 'em. I might give the little ones back later (creating CD this weekend), but I can always use more room to play with.

Bo.

The Shaker
07-02-2003, 17:17:43
Buggar...too slow.

Debaser
07-02-2003, 17:20:36
No problem Mr Birdseed, the 23 little beauties are currently winging their way to you.

My selection is seriously blinging. You guys should just let me make the whole double CD, it would be brilliant. None of that horrible kiddie skate-punk which infected the last round like a bad, puss filled scab. I've actually turned down choice cuts by Rose Royce, Joy Division, Roots Manuva, and Johnny Cash. Unbelivable.

The Shaker
07-02-2003, 17:21:32
I'm gonna hate then all.

Lazarus and the Gimp
07-02-2003, 17:26:13
Thanks for the offer, Debaser, but as the allocation's increased I won't be needing those 24 seconds. They're up for grabs now.

Debaser
07-02-2003, 17:28:48
I think Shakey might want 'em....

*End Is Forever*
07-02-2003, 18:22:41
I'll take 'em for now.

(+24)

Provost Harrison
07-02-2003, 18:53:14
Iain, give all your time away. Please, I beg of you :p

At least my songs will sound different...

I've managed to peer down my overflow, not including my gifted 23 secs, to a mere 11 seconds. Anyone?

One other thing. Provost? If half your reviews read "This doesn't really make me feel anything" again, we'll pop round to check your pulse and syringe your ears out.

Scabrous Birdseed
08-02-2003, 15:03:59
I really like my current track listing. I'm more comfortable with it than I was last time. Can I please have 11 seconds? Removing the one song everyone will hate is not one of the options anyway.

Lazarus and the Gimp
08-02-2003, 15:07:37
Does it have any caribbean novelty records in it?

Scabrous Birdseed
08-02-2003, 15:10:07
It has both but not together.

Lazarus and the Gimp
08-02-2003, 15:10:31
I'm feeling kind and I have over 11 seconds to spare. Have 'em.

Scabrous Birdseed
08-02-2003, 15:12:36
Bo.

Debaser
08-02-2003, 15:27:00
Hmm, I forgot about a song I hate. Nevermind, I'm sure there's something there to offend everyone anyway.

Scabrous Birdseed
08-02-2003, 15:28:02
The song I think most people will dislike is one I really love, incidentally.

Debaser
08-02-2003, 15:36:53
The song I think most people will hate is an all-time classic, but then there's no accounting for taste.

I have three of the best peices of music I know and they run at 13.51. I don't know which to drop and replace with something not as good. This is really hard. If I liked 2 minute garage rock songs I'd be fine.

Lazarus and the Gimp
08-02-2003, 19:54:39
Did I mention I got 5 songs into my allocation, with time over?

10-02-2003, 13:56:06

Agreed, i think the time limit has completely changed the kind of thing i will be contributing. In particular everyone has been saved from the vagaries of my hip hop collection because of time constraints.

(Sigh) There's always LWP5... :nervous:

Provost Harrison
11-02-2003, 21:34:41
I think I can guarantee universal hatred, once I have figured out what tracks I am including

And Laz, most of your songs got quite good reviews...it was a lot of the others which were just dreary and uncompelling...

Sean
15-02-2003, 01:05:00
I could do with a smidgen of extra time because one of my chosen tracks is just too damn long but has to go in.

Sean
15-02-2003, 01:05:42
It will make the difference between me including four and five tracks.

BigGameHunter
15-02-2003, 18:03:41
What are you guys talking about?

Scabrous Birdseed
15-02-2003, 23:25:24
Right, brief rundown of the LWP concept and history.

The idea behind Listen Without Prejudice (crap name, we know, but it has stuck) is that participants are made to review tracks without knowing who they're by, thus supposedly eliminating at least part of the prejudice.

LWP1 consisted of me and Mike (Funkodrom) sending each other Unlabelled CDs and reviewing them. It made for two reasonably nice articles and we got a lot out of each other's music.

LWP2 was meant to be the same thing, except with Sean and Iain (*End is Forever*) as the two CD senders and Mike as a third, impartial judge. It got quite heavily delayed and only half of the project was ever completed.

For LWP3, the concept was changed to eleven participants each sending in a certain number of minutes' worth of music to a central compiler (me) who then burnt them onto a double-CD compilation- the idea being that the additionally prejudice-creating factor of knowing who sent a track would be eliminated. I think it was a resounding success, at least to the extent of spawning another incarnation of exactly the same thing, except this time with thirteen participants.

We're currently in the process of selecting songs, renegotiating our time allocation so that all CDs are full but not overfilled.

Er, own goal.

BigGameHunter
16-02-2003, 04:39:34
Nice...so you are all culling your collections for the more obscure favorites?

Scabrous Birdseed
16-02-2003, 14:58:01
Largely. I know one of my tracks will almost certainly be recognised by one or two of the thirteen participants, but that doesn't really phase me. I also have a "possibly" in the recognisable stakes (the band is well-known for historical reasons more than anything else), and three songs I can almost guarantee this particular audience has no awareness of.

So, is that you in for a potential LWP5 then? :)

Sean, I have been given an extra minute. Wanna go halves on it? 30 seconds up for grabs.

Sean
16-02-2003, 18:31:55
Will do, cheers.

BTW, I got RC’s CD yesterday, complete with helpful Post-It note.

Scabrous Birdseed
16-02-2003, 20:36:47
What was on it? All the track names so you can CHEAT?

Sean

RC’s CD.

3 songs.

How many minutes do we have again?

Funkodrom
17-02-2003, 09:22:08
12:38 I think. You have an extra 30 seconds though.

protein
17-02-2003, 09:50:34

Johan, my CD-writer at home has gone on the blink. Can I use yours at some point?

Scabrous Birdseed
17-02-2003, 10:39:37
Sure. N/P. There's a cable-arrangement thing going on, but I'm sure you can deal with that given instructions.

Tell you what, I'll compromise and post it in this thread.

Scabby's CD.

5 songs.

There.

Debaser
18-02-2003, 16:58:31
I have a feeling we may need to add an extra article this time, what with all the people submitting 5 songs. Not a problem, just a comment.

On a different note, has anybody heard the Mariah Carey version of the InDeep disco classic Last Night A DJ Saved My Life? It's worse than you could ever possibly imagine. Truely shocking.

I'd love to contribute--have some great stuff on disc, but actually, most of it is on vinyl! Don't know how to get that onto the PC?
I'll keep my eyes out for rules, invitations, methodology, etc.
We've got a great local music scene here...

Lazarus and the Gimp
26-02-2003, 19:55:37
Would you like to join in this round? It's too late to be a contributor, but if you'd like to review tracks then I'll see that a copy reaches you. All you'll have to do is a short review of each track.

BigGameHunter
26-02-2003, 21:21:27
Yes, definitely.
Do you still have my post address from the time you sent me a disc before (I owe you a return disc on that one) or shall I PM it to you?
Hell...you have a small child...I just answered my own question. I'll PM it.

Funkodrom

Anyone got a measly 5 seconds? :cute:

*End Is Forever*
02-03-2003, 18:36:05
Having completed the songs I have ~25 seconds to give away. Anybody want them?

Funkodrom
03-03-2003, 09:21:52
It's OK I've picked my songs now within the time, thanks though.

King_Ghidra
03-03-2003, 09:46:08
i think mine comes to 12.33 so there is 5 seconds free if someone desperately needs it (and it looks like they do).
Funko i will definitely bring it round tonight i have it burnt and ready to go. I supose i shall call my cd KGLWP4CD then...

Funkodrom
03-03-2003, 10:02:54
OK cool. I need to get Rob's CD!

Provost Harrison
04-03-2003, 23:15:45
Well I am approximately 8 seconds over, so it looks like there are a lot of gaps which mine fill fortunately...
