View Full Version : Call for LWP4 Participants

Snapcase
25-01-2003, 20:55:32
Hello all potential participants in our most cherished forum game, LWP, where the aim is to compile a CD of tracks that the participants for the most part cannot discern the origin of, both artist-wise and sender-wise. And then review them. Sign up below!

The gimmick that we've decided on for this round is "one you hate". Based on that, each participant will have to be willing to fill between 11 and 19 minutes of time with music from their record collection, consisting of: (a) one song that they really dislike and (b) as many songs as they want that they like. Please don't make (a) too obvious- guessing the supposed duds is all part of the cheerful paranoia of this activity.

Deadline for participant roll call will be Sunday the second of february- time will be allocated based on the number of participants at this point. So, all of you that have music and a CD writer, sign up for hours of strange reviewing fun.

Oh, and if you really, really object to the setup (or any changes to the setup) please say so. If it turns out our participation will be doubled by dropping the "one you hate" rule, then by all means we will, but one or two dissenting voices won't change the majority vote. :)

I'm in. Can anyone beat my record? I bought three albums as a result of LWP3.

Scabrous Birdseed
25-01-2003, 21:03:24
I bought one, and I'm probably buying two more based on that one and LWP3. So I will at some point be up near your number, but alas not yet.

Which ones did you buy?

Provost Harrison
25-01-2003, 21:46:22
Aye, I suppose I am in, if just for the sadistic joy :D

Lazarus and the Gimp

You'd hate them. The Finch album and two Queen Adreena albums.

MattHiggs
26-01-2003, 00:31:55
I've read the last three and I think I'm now ready to enter.

I had a really good idea for LWP4 earlier tonight. Unfortunately I can't remember what it was. Regardless of the format I'm in for this round though.

Mr. Bas
26-01-2003, 09:58:13
I'm in.

Funkodrom
26-01-2003, 10:49:26
Im in as well. I'm going to buy the Finch album.

The Shaker
26-01-2003, 17:21:14
I may as well be in.

Scabrous Birdseed
26-01-2003, 17:26:54
Oh good. Eight. That means it's two CDs again.

Count me in this time...

Lazarus and the Gimp
26-01-2003, 19:20:40
Just a suggestion. If the numbers become unwieldy, how about including people on a "review only" basis? Presumably just volunteers, unless anyone feels Nazi enough to enforce it.

Lazarus and the Gimp
26-01-2003, 19:24:35
Here's how I'd work it.

The compiler automatically gets a submission berth. The rest is open to chance, with submission slots being drawn for up to a maximum ceiling. Those being unlucky are still invite to participate on a "review only basis".

If I was doing it, I'd weight the draw in favour of new participants, but that's just me. This would be a move to avoid having 5-minute allocations of time, or a triple-album.

Any thoughts?

MattHiggs
27-01-2003, 01:35:20
There are so many songs that I REALLY despise it's hard to choose just one.

MattHiggs
27-01-2003, 01:37:09
I'll try and take as little time as possible 12 minutes or so, and leave more time for people that actually care about music. :D

So, all I have to do is burn a cd with a few songs on and send it you Snappy?

Scabrous Birdseed
27-01-2003, 14:40:32
Laz: Look, we've currently got eight participants. That's 19 minutes or so per person. Let's worry about what to do once we've got more than 15 (maximum plausible number), shall we?

protein
27-01-2003, 15:35:45
I'm in too! I'm having trouble locating my hate song though.

Me! Me! Me!

Funkodrom
27-01-2003, 16:25:45
Why not just say that the first 15 get to join in and any others will have to wait 'till next time.

*End Is Forever*
27-01-2003, 16:26:02
We've got twelve participants now. I think. We'll have to cap it somewhere or else people won't have sufficient time...

Funkodrom
27-01-2003, 16:28:27
How much time do you need? We could do 2 songs each. *shrug*

Scabrous Birdseed
27-01-2003, 16:28:41
Twelve?

Er. Me, Laz, MattHiggs, PH, Mike, Mike, Bas, Shakey, Protein, RC, You.

Eleven.

I just flicked down the screen and I think I counted Higgsy twice. How many people did we have last time?

*End Is Forever*
27-01-2003, 16:32:00
I think giving people less than ten minutes each would be silly.

*End Is Forever*
27-01-2003, 16:32:49
Are you still in the Nouse office Johan?

Scabrous Birdseed
27-01-2003, 16:33:54
That's the same number as last time, which worked okay.

I suggest that if it gets to ten minutes each we scrap the "evil song" idea, mainly 'cause that'd leave a few of us with two songs one of which we did not like. :)

I also prefer the First Come, First Serve model.

Scabrous Birdseed
27-01-2003, 16:34:25
Yes.

Okay, well are we sorted then?

Scabrous Birdseed
27-01-2003, 16:43:32
Well we should give others a chance to register.

Oh, and I'm leaving the office in 20 minutes or so.

Debaser
27-01-2003, 16:44:14
Sounds good to me. I'm not too sure about the song we hate idea anyway.

King_Ghidra@home
27-01-2003, 18:41:32
i'll give it a go

after thinking about it i'm going off the song you hate idea too

anyway everyone would pick the 'diana' rework of 'candle in the wind' right? :gasmaske:

Debaser
27-01-2003, 18:52:08
I was gonna pick I Believe I Can Fly by R Kelly, but I couldn't even bring myself to download it.

i have it on mp3 if you'd like a copy :)

how dare you insult it, my favourite karaoke song

protein

It's absolutely impossible to locate the birdy song.

Debaser
27-01-2003, 20:50:10
Surely not. Hang on, I'll check.....

(I can play it on the keyboard if that helps???)

protein
27-01-2003, 20:56:01
Makes me shiver just thinking about it.

Debaser
27-01-2003, 21:11:04
Can't find the Mp3 at all, though if you pm me your mobile number I'll send you the ringtone.

protein
27-01-2003, 22:18:24
I apreciate the thought. It wouldn't even be funny in an ironic way. It would just make me want to kill everyone when my phone went off.

da de da da do do da da de da da do do da da de da de da de da
DA DA DA DA!

Aargh!

Funkodrom

I can't bring myself to mention my hated song but I'll tell you if we decide not to go with that idea.

protein

There's always the lightning seeds to fall back on for me. D'oh! I've let that one slip now.

Yeah, but what have you picked for your most hated track? :p

Provost Harrison
27-01-2003, 22:38:10
"Save all your kisses for me, save all your kisses for me. Bye bye baby, bye bye!"

It's a close contender actually, but not the one I am going to pick. There is one so excruciating, it needs to be on there.

Funkodrom
27-01-2003, 22:42:31
I don't think protein's going to do very well at keeping his tracks secret.

protein
27-01-2003, 22:54:47
I'm lulling you in to a false sense of security. Then I'm going to hit you with a song so horrific you might die.

Does it have to be a famous song?

Funkodrom
27-01-2003, 22:59:15
No, can be any song you want.

Scabrous Birdseed
27-01-2003, 23:05:13
In fact, even if we decide not to go with the idea, you can put one on anyway just to throw us off.

protein
27-01-2003, 23:14:00
I've chosen 2 good and one bad. If we have a time allowance I might mix them in to one short megamix. :)

protein
27-01-2003, 23:14:47
Bad idea. Then you'd know that my selection was the megamix.

Funkodrom
27-01-2003, 23:17:10
I've been thinking about my choices for the next one.

Scabrous Birdseed

The Reading people are going to spot my selection anyway.
Or are they? :hmm:

It's going to be One True Voice, isn't it?

27-01-2003, 23:32:21
Do we have enough people yet?

Scabrous Birdseed
27-01-2003, 23:49:42
Sure we do (12), but let's allow other people to register first. Like Sean, where's he at anyway?

Just think of, er, between ten and twelve and a half minutes of music.

Sean
27-01-2003, 23:51:23
I’m here, having bought only two albums as a result of LWP3.

Scabrous Birdseed
27-01-2003, 23:52:10
And are you in?

Sean
27-01-2003, 23:56:47
With a vengeance.

The Bursar
28-01-2003, 00:22:23
Now, shall I sign up as the piss-annoying 13th person?

Debaser
28-01-2003, 00:25:45
You'll be no.14 dude.

Sean
28-01-2003, 00:35:32

Ok, I've got the CD all done. What do I do with it now?

Scabrous Birdseed
29-01-2003, 15:48:47
You wait. We're still not sure how much time you'll get, you may have to cut/change tracks and/or negotiate for more/less time. Time is allocated depending on the number of participants...

Scabrous Birdseed
02-02-2003, 11:30:14
Er. I would need to declare it closed first. Which I'll do... NOW!

Right. You've got 11 min 32 secs. The "Bad Song" is optional, but it'd be nice if we got a couple at least to confuse people.

Sean? You take it from here.
