View Full Version : Dumbest. Movie. Ever.

So my wife and I finally went to see TTT this weekend (don't laugh, we have a baby) and the usual audience hubbub was going on pre-movie. When the trailers came on, people pretty much shut up and when the movie came on, everybody shut up.

Which was good. Except for the fact that I didn't shut up...

There were 4-6 trailers for various films. One of the trailers was (pretty lame for a trailer, imo) for the film "Dumb and Dumberer." OK, it's going to be quick knock-off w/o the original stars in it, no big deal.

Then the trailer after that was for this laugher called "The Core." My wife and I couldn't believe our eyes - this movie looks so dumb, it might make "Armageddon" look like... well, "Deep Impact" ("Armageddon" was pretty bad, so I couldn't exactly say "Citizen Kane".)

Anyway, my faux pas was this: when the trailer for "The Core" ended, during the two seconds that they show the credits, I said, IN A REALLY LOUD VOICE:

"Now that was Dumb and Dumberer!"

The entire audience broke up. My wife had to leave for a minute or two, she was laughing so hard. Everybody calmed down by the time the movie started, so all was good (luckily, there were a few trailers after that).

Was I wrong in doing that?

But seriously, is there a dumber premise than the one in this movie? You thought Armageddon had bad science - my God!!!! This movie is horrible!

http://us.imdb.com/Title?0298814

"Scientists discover that the Earth's core is about to stop spinning. This will cause tremendous natural disasters, wiping out life as we know it. A team of scientists is recruited in a crash project to send a ship and bomb into the center of the Earth to prevent the catastrophe."

By the way, did you know the spinning Core protects us from harmful "microwaves"? Not UV, not high-energy solar rays, but microwaves.

See the trailer: www.thecoremovie.com

So you take your movies seriously then? I bet "journey to the center of the earth" really must have freaked you out.

Didn't see it. And, yes: I take stupidity very seriously.

Gotta be worth watching!

If it ain't a documentary then you have to go with the flow. It's just a plot device like light sabers.

D'oh! Forgot about the movie forum.. could somebody move this?

TTT = The Two Towers. For your ignorance, you are now hereby banned from all comic book and fantasy/sci-fi conventions for all time, Drekkus. ;)

Looking forward to 'Timeline' with Billy Connolly in a supporting role.

Edit: got the movie title wrong.

Have you seen the comments at imDB?

The people who say this is a stupid and boring and impossible idea are the same ones who 50 years ago would have laughed at the idea of global warming and climate change, yet we are experiencing both.

I went to the Two Towers this weekend, too, but they only showed 3 very short trailers. It was almost like they said, "Yeah, whatever, let's get this over with."

When I saw TTT, there wasn't a single trailer! What was really annoying though is that I had decided to take a tactical piss, expecting there to be at least 10 mins of trailers, so off I go. When I came back, the bloody film had already started and Gandalf was trying to vanquish the Balrog. Bugger!

The Core though, that sounds utterly dreadful! I confess to actually watching Armageddon last week as it was on British tv, and I must admit that is the worst film I have ever, ever seen!

You missed 'Independence Day'?????

Darkstar

Independence Day had a few funny moments. It's got Will Smith in it, after all.

ID4 is, compared to Armaggedon, the best film ever made in the world, ever.

Venom
28-01-2003, 00:17:09
ID4 isn't bad. Quite a bit out there at times, but not terrible.

Funkodrom
28-01-2003, 14:06:53
It's OK until the wedding scene then it's unwatchable.

Venom
28-01-2003, 15:54:25
The whole Presidential fighter pilot thing is one giant  And the rest of the final battle is pretty much the whole out there part.

Funkodrom
28-01-2003, 15:58:24
Yeah, and the actual wedding itself is absolutely horrible.

Stuff like the Israelis working with the arabs in the desert (all under the command of the RAF) it's just

And taking out the mothership by installing Windows on it.

Venom
28-01-2003, 16:01:48
Now the windows thing would work. Especially without the service packs.

And the way I figure it, the Middle Eastern part of the movie was set in 1936 Middle East. That's the only way to explain the cooperation. Except for the weapons and jets which were teleported back through time using a DeLorean.

Speaking of DeLoreans, the Back to the Future trilogy is an example of hard science mixed with fantastic films.

Flux capacitors, the space time continuem etc...

All well documented scientific subjects Mr Funkodrom.

They didn't install Windows on the mothership.

They connected a Mac to it and gave it a Mac virus.

A fact that Mac fans worldwide used to argue that even stupid aliens know Mac is superior to Windows.

Get with the program, people...

It looked like MovieOS Generic Edition to me. The version with modular graphics environment to show one of many types of skull-and-crossbones and progress bars to indicate that a virus is being transferred.

It's a Mac power book.
It's Mac widget graphics...

Back when ID4 was in the theaters, Mac had an AD about it, as I recall.

I don't wear ascots. Just big bags over my head.

Venom
03-02-2003, 15:28:50
You know Cobra Commander wore and ascot when out on the town. You just know it.

Funkodrom
03-02-2003, 15:32:59
What's an Ascot? (I know it's a small town near here with a race course but that's about it)

We've discussed this before haven't we?

Darkstar
04-02-2003, 03:23:13
It was Destro that wore ascots, wasn't it? Or am I thinking of the Crimson Guard's Twin Commanders?

Funkodrom
04-02-2003, 11:32:02
I don't think so. So what are they?

Venom
04-02-2003, 13:38:48
I know we have. They're like ties, except weirder. A scarf type thingy for the neck region. They're even named after that English town.

I don't think Destro had one...

Darkstar
05-02-2003, 04:50:10
Humm... a search of Google images shows you are correct. Must be the twins then.

Funkodrom
05-02-2003, 13:53:02
OK I found a picture:

http://gloriousvintage.com/ASCOTT2.JPG

I guess you might see someone wearing a tie like that in the posh bit of Royal Ascot (the name of the annual race meeting that the Queen attends) but it would be a plain one and only with top hat and tails. You wouldn't catch anyone wearing it with a dressing gown, only person I can think of who would do that is Hugh Heffner.

Venom
05-02-2003, 14:10:40
Only rich people wear ascots. Oh and the neighbor guy in Friday who wants people to stay off his lawn.

Fred in Scooby Doo wears an ascot.
