Finally out on budget, this thing. Quite fun- I've played it for an hour, got a grip on the basic controls and proceeded to the second level. The expected "just one more go" feeling has yet to materialise, but I'm sure it will appear once the goals are more difficult and I can't just randomly amble about and achieve a goal by mistake like I did with the Hall Passes in the second level.

I got SSX for 8 second hand. you could have probably got TH3 for something similar.

There are no shops in this country that sell second-hand PC games. Is it illegal or something? In sweden, probably, yeah. I doubt it'd run on my PC.

a very nice game. I changed the setup of my controller and it was much easier then. the defaults were tricky

We played TH2 the other day. Was a classic but now after much play of THPS3 and 4 it's looking really, really slow and dated. Had great fun with it back in the day though.

Vincent
17-01-2003, 11:01:14
The differences aren't that big on the PC. It looks still Ok.

Funkodrom

Probably not, the jump from Playstation to Playstation2 had a really big effect.

King_Ghidra
17-01-2003, 11:28:56
that is one reason why the impact of thps4 was lessened in comparison with thps3

Funkodrom
17-01-2003, 11:40:42
Tony 4 is still way, way better than 3 though. Jango Jet Jump!

I'm gutted, I failed the 'get a million points' challenge by 50,000 pts :(

I never thought that thps3 was that much of a jump up compared to 4.

Funkodrom
17-01-2003, 11:54:56
Shit. You've got really good all of a sudden.

I created a skater yesterday. The Created Skater pro goal is excellent. You have to be a movie stuntman and trigger explosions whilst being shot at.

it was a one off, next time i missed by 750000

is that the grind the rails and hit the detontators one?

You are all talking about this game as if it is not one of the greatest games ever made. What's wrong with you people?

protein, we had this discussion the other day. It was one of the greatest games ever made before the two sequels blew it away.

I have only tried it twice but I missed it by 850,000 approx. I'm currently learning Specials because I think it's the only way to progress at the moment.

Yep.

Getting 550000 in the kidney bowl helps.
The specials give a huge boost, as long as you land em, and don't accidently combine them with a triple heelflip, varial or whatever :)

I still have TH3 on my kitchen table. I haven't had time to master it yet.

Start by removing the cellophane wrapping.

Just out of curiosity, what did you change the controls to Vincent?

Vincent
17-01-2003, 20:11:53
swapped grind and jump key and maybe 2 others IIRC

Scabrous Birdseed
21-01-2003, 01:11:50
Lotta fun this.

I'm now at the first competition after completing a handful of level 2 goals, including the wallride five bells one with ten seconds to go. That was moderately tricky, actually. This competition thingy is considerably worse though- I've yet to string together several good runs. Need to practice my tricks more, and get like 30 000 points in each heat to get a chance at a medal.

Vincent
21-01-2003, 09:21:57
Try to stay on the board!

Funkodrom

Soon you'll be getting 30,000 point tricks and wondering what the fuss was about. :D

Vincent

My personal record is 50 minutes from the first to the last level

Funkodrom
21-01-2003, 11:19:57
That's really good. I don't know if I ever completed that one.

Vincent
21-01-2003, 12:52:29
I bet someone really good can do it a lot faster
I didn't manage to complete the last level because I was to tired.
You can archive the most goals of the hangar in 2 rounds, 4 minutes. School maybe 6 minutes, Marseille 2 minutes, cancel the 3rd run. New York 6 Minutes, Venice 6 Minutes, Plywood Paradise 2 Minutes, and the fountain level 6 Minutes. I guess you need more time in the later levels to get the highscore points.

About 30. Minutes to the end.

Funkodrom
21-01-2003, 13:17:12
I don't think we unlocked Plywood Paradise or Fountain level.

I think I just figured out how to manual properly. Boy does this make scoring really high scores much easier. I mean, I can do 5-6000 points by just doing grinds and kickflips linked together with manuals, I wonder if it works with proper ramps.

Buying a much faster skateboard helped too.

Funkodrom
22-01-2003, 09:46:33
I swear I got to be able to land manuals from ramps but Debaser and protein assure me it was impossible. I couldn't do it with a quick attempt the other day.

Vincent
22-01-2003, 10:52:51
Sure it's possible (at least at the PC). At the hangar you can jump across the plane and land with a manual. you get a "manual landing". The best combo I managed that way was 140000 points IIRC. That's quite a lot for THPS2.
Right after you start jump across the plane towards the heli, try to manual to the surrounding pathway and try to grind using different grinds back to the starting position, then manual and try to do another plane jump or try to get to the halfpipe.

King_Ghidra
22-01-2003, 10:53:41
i may be wrong but i think in thps3 the whole point of the revert move was to allow you to then combo into a manual

so that would imply it wasn't possible in thps2

Vincent
22-01-2003, 10:54:07
the "manual landings" need some proper timing, took me some hours to get into it

Funkodrom
22-01-2003, 11:50:27
Yeah, those manual landings are definitely possible, I was talking about manualing out of a landing on a half pipe.

Vincent
22-01-2003, 12:20:29
That doesn't work, at least with the PC version.

Funkodrom
22-01-2003, 12:25:58
Yeah, I think I was confused.

Finally encountered the first of the expected set of "really frustrating goals I can nearly reach but can't quite get there, aargh" trying to get the blasted Secret Tape on the New York level. Aaargh.

Vincent
22-01-2003, 18:47:10
That one was very difficult to me as well. But once you got the correct timing it's pretty easy. In fact I think to get the tape in the school level is more difficult (I always come back once I got better stats).
I love the taxi drivers in the New York level.

Try a "Bust Keith's AE" by grinding on who's online

Scabrous Birdseed
23-01-2003, 17:25:59
When I finally found the little bugger on the school level it wasn't hard at all to get it, just took three or four tries. Build up to special, run down the planks, launch onto roof, bingo.

Still haven't got the NY one. And I haven't even found the Hangar one. And I still need several thousand points. :(

Vincent
24-01-2003, 07:36:20
The hangar one is pretty easy, in one of the hidden areas

Funkodrom
24-01-2003, 09:24:13
Grind the propellor blade at the edge of the half pipe to open the area.

Also grind across the middle helicopter propeller blade to change the shape of the level.

Found that. By accident. As far as I can see all it contains is cash though, am I missing something?

Vincent
24-01-2003, 12:39:50
Try the helicopter propeller! It also opens a small area outside the building with the tape

Funkodrom
24-01-2003, 13:31:56
Yep, that's it. I couldn't remember which one it was in.

Right, All I have left now is: SICK! score on Hangar, Pro and SICK! score on school, Silver and Gold medals on Marseilles and SICK! score on NYC, plus all the "collect everything and complete all goals" goal... And it still won't let me access the next level! Bastards.

Any tips as to where I can find about $400 worth of cash? There's a $200 note in NYC I can almost reach, and several $100 ones seemingly suspended impossibly high in both hangar and school. How do I get onto the big school roof?

Vincent
24-01-2003, 19:23:13
You can get quite a good score on the school level when you do a wallride where the first bell is, jump to the roof, grind and jump back, than use the halfpipes at the same area. don't move too much around.

There is a hidden level in Marseille. If you look ahead there are some trees or lampposts or a pole(?). One of them has a small bar something. if you ride across the log the tree (?) will smash into the fence and open an underground cavern with some money. Must be 400$ or so ;)

Scabrous Birdseed
25-01-2003, 01:39:22
Oh well, I managed to reach Venice Beach anyway (by picking up cash in NYC). I'll complete some goals here first I think, I did the tramp one before logging off last time.

The Shaker
25-01-2003, 11:46:07
DO the Sick score in NYC by accidentally getting trapped between two of the trains, getting you a million gap bonusses, then manage somhow to drop down to the floor and land on your feet.
That's how I did it.

Vincent
25-01-2003, 16:36:49
Sick!

Scabrous Birdseed
26-01-2003, 01:14:57
Any tips for completing the VB! Huge Transfer!! or whatever it's called on venice beach? You know, the one where you have to jump from one ramp, over a grass verge, another ramp and another grass verge and land on a ramp like 25 metres away. Even in Special Mode it's bloody impossible, I only managed to do it (well, almost...) once. And I need to complete it in roughly 30 seconds so I can do the other three VB Transfers in decent time.

Vincent
26-01-2003, 20:27:16
I managed it 2 or 3 times. Extremely difficult

Scabrous Birdseed
27-01-2003, 14:48:13
I've done it now. Currently failing miserably to come third in the second competition... Maybe I should go back to trying to figure out how to reach the secret tape on VB.

Vincent
27-01-2003, 15:09:35
Spend hours to get it from the nearby roof, but finally I found out it's really quite easy

Scabrous Birdseed
29-01-2003, 01:32:32
Yay, I'm in Philly. Bloody easy Secret Tape I must say.

Vincent
29-01-2003, 07:48:48
The fountain is very hard

Scabrous Birdseed
29-01-2003, 15:50:00
I haven't got a clue how to do the fountain. Don't tell me, I'll figure it out.
