Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide will include a new 40-hour single player campaign as well as game features new to Neverwinter Nights, such as additional D&D™ skills, feats, classes, monsters, weapons and spells. In addition, the pack will include two new tile sets and other assets for use in the Aurora toolset that will enable amateur module designers to create completely different worlds.

Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide offers role playing fans even more D&D features than the groundbreaking original. Additions include, new skills, including Tumble and Appraise; new feats, such as Divine Might, Extra Music and Bullheaded; new weapons, such as Holy Water Flasks and Choking Powder; new prestige classes, like Harper Scout; new monsters from the D&D universe, including Medusa, Cockatrice, Sphinx, and Female Fire Giant; and dozens of new spells.

Both of these paragraphs were in the original thread in some form or another.

Vaginal blood fart.

15-01-2003, 21:31:07
Wow is that a new mage spell of something?

15-01-2003, 21:56:46
Its a combo of Otiluke's Sphere and Beltyn's Burning blood. The target is encased in a shimmering red sphere and cannot attack or be attacked, but is also suffering from the burning blood spell for the duration.

The home-grown modules make it all worthwhile, the official campaign was pretty lackluster. Played the two Lone Wolf modules Sunday, very cool.

Don't have time or connection for multiplayer, unfortunately. Seems to be the best way to play, but maybe that's only because I can't play that way.

The expansion campaign is quite fun. Much better than the first one.

They keep putting the fucking UK release date back, which is annnoying me intensely becuase i have a large Amazon order waiting to be delivered and it won't leave til this fucker comes out

03-07-2003, 09:15:22
So far so good:).

03-07-2003, 09:37:29
so you're not moaning about NWN being bug-riddled anymore? ;)

04-07-2003, 01:00:33
Give me a change to warm up;)

Will they add a decent graphics engine in the expansion? I preferred the old engine as it gave a sense of atmosphere. Neverwinter Nights made me feel like I was walking around a bunch of prefabbed shelters.

08-07-2003, 08:07:27
i suppose it has sacrificed some individuality in order to allow the game creation tool to be used and played by andbody

i do know what you mean but i don't know how NWN could exist as a multiplayer game if they didn't have the generic tile sets

i always saw the single player aspect of NWN as a bonus rather than the core of the game

Yeah, but it still came off as lame. I predicted the storyline fairly accurately after only a few hours. It was pretty easy to see exactly where everything was going, you just had to get there.

It sacrificed a good bit more than some individuality to make it a multiplayer game.

I see nothing wrong with tile sets, it's just that there aren't nearly enough of them really. It could make do with it's limited poly count with more textures, or they could have boosted the poly count with the same amount of textures, though I could see that making things hard when designing for most people.

So far the expansion is very good:). Rachel and I are up to the interlude (second quest), I'm one level away from Black guard and it's been fun all the way through. Much much better than the original:D.

I hear you can only cast it three days out of every month.

Might consider getting it, I don't know.

No. The new tilesets are very slightly better than the ones used in NWN, and are slightly more 'atmospheric'. Which is to say, for example, you feel like you are walking around in a prefab shelter because IN THE GAME you are walking around in a prefab shelter. But the overall level of graphics hasn't changed much.

What has changed is that the story is now interesting and fun. You can interact realisitically with many of the characters, instead of the nintendo level stuff in the original. It's really been good, and I mean good on a 'compared to Baldur's Gate' level, not just compared to the original.

Them Canadians might be a bit slow, but they do learn.

NWN only really starts to take off once you play MP with a cool bunch of people. It's not a game made for single player. If you don't like and play it because the solo campaign sucks then you don't know what you're missing.

Personally I like the graphics BTW ... but I also haven't seen another game besides Diablo 2 the last 3 years. ;)

My copy of SoU will hopefully arrive sometime next week. :)

Shining, your answer to the graphics was great. Very slightly better, I'm sure you could make it in Washington as a presidential speech writer. Vague as possible there. :) Nice joke afterwards - I'll have to think of it like that from now on, maybe it'll make more sense if I'm a hero running around in a prefab shelter to save the prefab shelter or world. I don't think so. I just hate the engine and the pissy little useless henchmen. They either end up as inadverdent food for something when they go off to do something stupid. Or they'll attack the biggest guy in the group which can kill me in two or three hits and I'm a warrior, and he would go in for sure, No second hit needed is a pain. It's babysitting that you have to do really to complete the game since you can't get up enough in level in anything then.

uncannily that is exactly my situation in the game too

never really played a fighter in nwn before, greater cleave is fantastic

14-07-2003, 10:41:18
We're into chapter 2 now, and we each have a prestige class:beer:.

Haven't noticed anything too different so far - Rachel's bard is hitting things a lot (and hard) with her bow, but that's more probably because of the nice +3 bow:). And Black Guard doesn't really start to warm up until level 3, although the bonus Bulls Strength at level 2 is really really nice. I don't have any charisma though so dark blessing and smite good aren't particularly useful.

Certainly, fighting with a great axe and a strength of 31 in power attack mode is a fun experience:D. My best hit so far is an 82 point critical and I'm just getting warmed up now.

31 strength? Can you become a god in the game or something?Oor is this part of the new and improved DnD rules. Last I checked 25 was the highest, even for Godlike beings.

14-07-2003, 18:26:41
The rules are pretty different in 3rd Ed. 31 is ridiculously high, still. +9 modifier to hit and damage?

I had barbarian with a 22 dex, which I thought was pretty damned high. I have SoU, and its installed, but I won't (I hope:)) start the campaign until after graduation. Ive got too many other distractions to add this to the pot.

15-07-2003, 06:57:39
SoU seems to have lost the +10 max rule. So I can stack a +3 hill giant belt on top of Bull's Strength AND Barbarian Rage. The character only has a base strength of 19.

MDA: There's a new 'tumble' skill and the expertise feat. Tumble's secondary bonus is +1AC for every 5 ranks, while expertise gives +5AC for -5AB. Stacked on a finesse fighter, I'm betting that build just got insane.

31 Str is +10 to hit and damage, almost +11:D.

15-07-2003, 08:52:38
i got my first level of blackguard last night (after 6 levels of fighter and 1 of rogue)

just doing the desert lich quest thing, and just killed that fucking hard skeleton blackguard guy. I was very pleased to see i could loot his blackguard armour, helmet and greatsword (which i have specialisation in). I really feel the part now :D

i don't really like having a henchman, but i've got deekin and i really quite like him. His bard song and haste spell are very very useful, and i love the fact he can identify magic items for me.

15-07-2003, 09:41:12
I took 4 levels of Barbarian and 3 of fighter. I've yet to get specialisation:D.

Deekin is class:D. One of the funniest character's since Minsc. I am really enjoying having him along.

15-07-2003, 13:32:21
Now that I have it installed, but am "not playing it"...
I've started taking tumble skill with my barbarian.

I'm playing the Dreamcatcher modules instead. :D

16-07-2003, 07:55:21
i've heard very very good things about those dreamcatcher modules, definitely intend to download those once i finish SOU
