Free mp3 of the week #2
Music: Posted: 23/9/02 09:44 Author: Funkodrom Comments: 23 Comments

After the stunning success of last week's track I have chosen one this week from a band that I recent saw live and really liked, Miss Black America. This track is from their website and is from their X-Cel FM session. It's called Car Crash for a Soul. Download it here.. Miss Black America are currently on tour in the UK promoting their debut album God Bless Miss Black America, check the website for details.

New RAtM name confirmed
Music: Posted: 18/9/02 09:16 Author: Funkodrom Comments: 10 Comments

Former Rage Against the Machine members and Chris Cornell have dropped the Civilian name from their project. They are now to be called Audioslave. They have set up a very basic website which allows you to sign up for their mailing list. There's absolutely no information there at the moment other than the fact that "AUDIOSLAVE is a Los Angeles and Seattle based band."

Keep an eye on the website for more details.

MP3 of the week
Music: Posted: 16/9/02 10:13 Author: Funkodrom Comments: 24 Comments

So, after the big announcement about the MP3 of the week feature I've been bombarded with one suggestion! Yay!

I was going to start with one of my own but as only one person submitted anything I think they should be rewarded. It's certainly a bit different. A slice of Celtic rock complete with bagpipes. You can thank/blame zmama for this one.

Check it out here. Don't forget you can PM me if you have any suggestions for future weeks.

Counterglow mp3 of the week.
Music: Posted: 11/9/02 08:49 Author: Funkodrom Comments: 27 Comments

From next monday I'm going to be launching the Counterglow free mp3 of the week series. The idea is that I'll link to a cool and or interesting mp3 for your enjoyment. If anyone has any suggestions for future weeks please PM them to me. I can't guarantee I'll use them all but I will try and make sure I listen to them all.

The MP3 should be freely available for download and I'll be looking for something odd or interesting rather than something like a single by an already well known band.

To give you some idea, here's something Scabrous Birdseed suggested when we first mentioned this idea. It's slightly less topical now than it was but it's still good.

LWP3 Participant Roll Call
Music: Posted: 25/8/02 10:32 Author: Scabrous Birdseed Comments: 91 Comments

With LWP2 being just about finalised, it has been suggested preparations for the third installment should get underway. This will be handled slightly differently: we want as many participants as humanly possible (well, okay, no more than 14 really) to send in material for a compilation that all participants will have a chance to assess, not only ignorant of who the song is by but also who sent it in...

Unless we get, like, five or six participants at the very least, this will be quite boring. So sign up now for a bit of group-insulting fun come October.

Mercury Shorts
Music: Posted: 30/7/02 11:22 Author: Scabrous Birdseed Comments: 25 Comments

The Mercury Music Prize shortlist was just announced a couple of minutes ago. Quick look through the entries reveals the usual Politically Correct british nonsense, exemplified by the inclusion of The Doves, astoundingly boring-but-gorgeous Joni Mitchellalike Gemma Hayes (isn't she irish?), and everyone's favourite prat, The Streets. Confirms the slow and smelly death of british music, I'd say... None of these would make any sensible list of top 20 albums of 2001/02. Unless the ones I haven't heard of are astonishingly great.

Starsailor + Phil Spector = Aaargh!
Music: Posted: 14/7/02 20:41 Author: Scabrous Birdseed Comments: 32 Comments

Aren't you happy when... Phil Spector comes out of retirement again?

Aren't you worried when... He still shows signs of mental illness?

Aren't you terrified when... This in a new turn manifests itself in him picking Starsailor to work with?
